Inter were keen observers as young Tigre striker Mateo Retegui scored his second goal in as many matches for the Italian national team against Malta yesterday evening.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Corriere della Sera, via FCInterNews, who report that Nerazzurri Assistant Sporting Director Dario Baccin was in the stands as the 23-year-old impressed for the Azzurri.

Retegui’s rapid rise to being a surprise call-up for the Italian national team has certainly not escaped notice, and the striker who was already on Inter’s radar is now a firm target, with other European clubs also thinking about a move.

According to the Corriere, Nerazzurri executive Baccin was at yesterday’s EURO 2024 qualifying match between Malta and Italy, with watching Retegui his primary objective.

The newspaper notes that there is nothing that Inter will have seen from Retegui in his first two matches for the Azzurri that will have dissuaded them from seeing the 23-year-old as a target.
