Italian journalist Luca Marchetti believes that the brakes should be applied a bit on the rumours linking Antonio Conte with a return to Inter and Serie A.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster TMW Radio, via FCInterNews, the Sky Sport Italia journalist observed that there is a reason why the 53-year-old left the Nerazzurri in the first place, and that the circumstances that pushed him out have hardly changed.

With Conte now officially out the door at Tottenham Hotspur, no time has been wasted in speculating on where the former Inter, Juventus, Italy, and Chelsea coach’s next destination could be.

Rumours of a return to either the Nerazzurri or the Bianconero were persistent even before Conte’s departure from Spurs was made official, whilst other Serie A clubs such as AC Milan and Roma have also been mooted.

However, Marchetti noted, there would be concrete obstacles to Conte accepting a position at one of these clubs.

“I don’t know if he can be a sustainable coach for one of our clubs, we’ll have to see if he’s willing to lower his wages,” the journalist said.

“We have to remember that he left Inter because he no longer felt that they had the prospects to be competitive in Italy and in Europe as they had two years earlier,” Marchetti continued.
