Legendary former Inter defender and captain Beppe Bergomi does not expect that Fiorentina will be a straightforward opponent for the Nerazzurri on Saturday at all.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Radio Bruno, via FCInterNews, Bergomi noted that La Viola have been in excellent form going into the international break, and that they play a brand of football that the Nerazzurri will find tough to play against.

The fact that Fiorentina won all of their seven most recent matches heading into the break should be evidence enough that the Tuscans will be a difficult team to return to Serie A action.

Even if the level of opposition that Vincenzo Italiano’s side came up against in that run was never close to being as strong as Inter on paper, they certainly showed their resolve and their ability to unlock matches.

Moreover, Inter will remember that they needed a last-gasp winner from Henrikh Mkhitaryan to win the reverse fixture at the Stadio Artemio Franchi in November.

Even after Inter had gone ahead 2-0 in the first half of the match, La Viola fought back and showed both their determination and quality until the last minute, forcing the Nerazzurri to win the match 4-3.

Accordingly, it is certainly realistic to expect that, if Inter are to bounce back from their loss to Juventus before the international break by taking three points against Fiorentina, they will be made to work for it.

“They’re the worst possible opponent for Inter right now,” Bergomi predicted of La Viola.

“They have a strong team who have clear ideas of how they want to play and can build up well,” he added.

Bergomi also noted that “Inter will have to get some important players back.”

“And then, Lautaro will probably be a bit fatigued, he hasn’t been at his best [before the break].”

The former defender concluded that “Fiorentina will be a very tricky opponent for this Inter.”
