Inter coach Simone Inzaghi will be hoping that Romelu Lukaku’s stellar goalscoring form during the international break with Belgium can signal a “rebirth” ahead of the run-in of the season.

This is highlighted in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who note how the 29-year-old’s hattrick against Sweden and subsequent goal against Germany could give an indication that his physical form and confidence are finally at their best.

Inzaghi will be feeling that he’s never really gotten the best out of Lukaku this season, but that if the Belgian is to finally return to that level then it could be just the thing needed to push Inter on through the packed schedule of the run-in.

Lukaku’s four-goal haul for the Red Devils in two EURO 2024 qualifiers during the break is hardly conclusive evidence that he is back to that level just yet.

However, the Gazzetta notes, it is hardly a bad sign.

From Inzaghi’s perspective, it will be crucial that Lukaku can translate this form to club level in massively important commitments to come on three fronts, and then keep it up until the end of May.
