Inter would be ready to move to sign Atalanta defender Giorgio Scalvini in the summer, but only in the event that Alessandro Bastoni is sold.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who report that the Nerrazzurri see the 19-year-old as the ideal replacement for Bastoni, and would not be put off by the €40 million price tag.

It is far from certain that Bastoni will stay at Inter past the summer, the Gazzetta reports, as the Nerazzurri will want to sell him should an extension of his contract past the end of June 2024 not be agreed.

In the event that Inter decide to sell Bastoni, bringing in a like-for-like replacement would be a major priority.

In this sense, Scalvini would be Inter’s top target.

The 19-year-old is a player who Inter are very keen on, but in most circumstances would be priced out of a move for considering Atalanta want no less than €40 million for the highly-rated young defender.

However, Inter could reinvest part of the fee on a sale of Bastoni in bringing in Scalvini.

Meanwhile, the Gazzetta notes, Atalanta are also keen on Inter-owned midfielder Giovanni Fabbian, who could be inserted in a cash-plus-player offer for Scalvini.
