Inter forward Joaquin Correa could start in this Saturday’s Serie A match against Fiorentina.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who report that the fact that both Lautaro Martinez and Edin Dzeko will not be at their best following international duty could mean that Correa has an opportunity to start.

Of Inter’s four main forwards, Correa is the only one who was not away on international duty during the break.

Whilst Martinez was with the Argentine national team, Dzeko with Bosnia and Herzgovina, and Romelu Lukaku with Belgium, Correa stayed behind to work on his fitness ahead of the run-in of the season.

The 28-year-old is therefore fit to play a role during the team’s busy month of April as they return to action in Serie A as well as the Coppa Italia and the Champions League.

As far as the first match back in the league against Fiorentina, there are doubts about whether Martinez or Dzeko will be ready to start.

In the case of Martinez, the 25-year-old is only making his return to Italy from international duty with the Albiceleste today, which is also the case with Valentin Carboni.

Dzeko, meanwhile, has yet to make his return to full training as he continues to recover from a back injury which was picked up whilst with the Bosnian national team.

Should neither of the pair be deemed to be fit enough to start against La Viola on Saturday, an opportunity could be opened up for Correa to start alongside Romelu Lukaku.

The Argentine has not made the impact expected of him since making the big-money move from Lazio in the summer of 2021, with injuries playing a major role in his inconsistent form.

However, Correa could be hoping that he can finally show his best form in a Nerazzurri shirt during the run-in of the current campaign.
