Fiorentina captain Cristiano Biraghi does not have any regrets regarding his time as an Inter player.

Speaking to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, the 30-year-old explained that from his perspective he could have stayed at the Nerazzurri, but that the financial situation at the club made that impossible.

Biraghi was on loan at Inter during the 2019-20 season, but the Nerazzurri declined to sign him permanently from Fiorentina at the end of that campaign.

Instead, the defender has gone on to rise in stature at the Tuscan club over the past three seasons, becoming captain.

Biraghi is happy to be at Fiorentina, who will face Inter in the two sides’ respective returns to Serie A action on Saturday, and has no regrets about the fact that his time at the Nerazzurri was limited to just the one season.

“I have no regrets about it,” he said.

“I could have been bought, but because of COVID the club were unable to spend money, and so they brought in Kolarov and Darmian without having to spend instead,” the 30-year-old explained of the situation.

He added that “I only returned with even more hunger.”
