Inter wingback Federico Dimarco is set to miss out on tomorrow evening’s Serie A match against Fiorentina due to injury.

This according to Italian news outlet Gazzetta.it, who report that the 25-year-old has been deemed not to be fit enough to be called up for tomorrow’s match, and will instead target a return against Juventus or Salernitana.

Dimarco’s fitness for tomorrow evening’s match against Fiorentina always looked likely to go down to the wire, and the final assessments on his fitness were done today.

The 25-year-old had picked up an abdominal injury during the Nerazzurri’s Serie A loss to Juventus prior to the international break, forced off as a substitute during the second half of the match with Danilo D’Ambrosio replacing him on the left flank.

Dimarco had initially been called up to the Italian national team for EURO 2024 qualifiers against England and Malta during the break.

However, the Nerazzurri wingback had to withdraw from the Azzurri’s squad, as he was unable to participate whilst recovering from his injury.

Dimarco stayed behind and worked on his recovery in Milan, with the aim of getting fit to make his return for his club as soon as possible.

Given that Inter face a packed fixture list in the month of April, with nine matches spread across just thirty days, the aim has been to get all injured players back as soon as possible.

At the same time, Dimarco will not be rushed back before being fully fit, and it has been deemed that he is not yet ready to make his return.

The 25-year-old, who has made 37 appearances for the Nerazzurri across all competitions so far this season, is targeting a return against Juventus in the Coppa Italia during the week, or against Salernitana in the league.

The hope is that Dimarco can be fully match-fit in time for the Nerazzurri’s Champions League quarterfinal first leg against Benfica.

In the meantime, both Alessandro Bastoni and Robin Gosens will be fully fit for tomorrow’s match against La Viola, having already returned to training.

It will be Gosens who starts on the left for Inter in tomorrow’s match, with the German former Atalanta man getting the opportunity to prove himself following some impressive recent performances before the international break.
