Inter’s preferred replacement for Simone Inzaghi as coach would be former Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte, although it would be easier for them to appoint Diego Simeone.

This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews, who also report that Fiorentina’s Vincenzo Italiano, Brighton and Hove Albion’s Roberto De Zerbi, and Bologna’s Thiago Motta are on the Nerazzurri’s shortlist.

The status Inzaghi’s future at Inter is far from certain either way.

The performances in the league have not been good enough, as CEO Beppe Marotta will have been hoping for the Serie A title, or at least for more of a serious challenge.

Meanwhile, the team are still alive in the Champions League knockout stages in April, and also face Juventus in a Coppa Italia semifinal tie which will give them the chance to defend their crown from last season.

In any event, if Inzaghi is to miss out on the Champions League places in the league table, and more broadly finish the campaign in a disappointing manner, there is every chance that the 46-year-old former Lazio boss could be on his way.

Were this to be the case, Inter have been linked with bringing back Conte following the 53-year-old’s departure from Tottenham.

According to Tuttosport, Conte would be the preference of Nerazzurri CEO Marotta, but there would be a lot of obstacles to getting him in.

On the other hand, current Atletico Madrid boss Simeone could be available in the summer, and the Argentine may be looking to immediately get back to work, with the Nerazzurri one of the main possible destinations for him.

Roma coach Mourinho currently looks inclined towards staying at the Giallorossi, but Tuttosport note that a lot can change in two months of football.

Accordingly, these two are linked as likelier replacements for Inzaghi than Conte would be.
