Brighton and Hove Albion coach Roberto De Zerbi is the favourite of Inter CEO Beppe Marotta to replace Simone Inzaghi next season.

This according to Italian news outlet Gazzetta.it, who report that the 43-year-old current Brighton boss is the man who the Nerazzurri will go after in the summer with Inzaghi’s exit looking increasingly probable.

Inzaghi is not yet out the door at Inter, although yesterday evening’s loss to Fiorentina in Serie A is very close to being the last straw.

If the coach cannot turn things around over the Nerazzurri’s next three matches, the Gazzetta report, he could well be sacked between the two legs of the Champions League quarterfinal tie against Benfica, in order to produce a reaction and try to salvage the season.

However, even if Inzaghi is to stay until the end of the season, the fact that the team have now lost ten matches in the leagues makes it very, very likely that the former Lazio boss will be sacked during the summer.

Brighton coach De Zerbi would be the man who Inter would then god after, according to the Gazzetta.

The former Sassuolo, Benevento, and Shakhtar Donetsk colach is also pursued by Tottenham Hotspur, who consider him one of the major alternative to former Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig boss Julian Nagelsmann and Brentford’s Thomas Frank.

However, the Nerazzurri would be prepared to go after the 43-year-old, as he is seen as the best candidate to replace Inzaghi by CEO Marotta.

It would take paying a release clause in De Zerbi’s contract with Brighton to secure the services of the Italian coach, and this would not be entirely straightforward for Inter given their financial situation.

Howeever, the Nerazzurri would be prepared to move for him.

Meanwhile, in the background are former Spurs coach Antonio Conte and current Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone, whose contract with the Colchoneros could be terminated in the summer.

However, it looks to be De Zerbi who is ahead of all others for Marotta and Inter, the Gazzetta reports.
