Inter will have over €100 million at stake in the remaining matches they play this season.

This is highlighted in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who detail the cash that the Nerazzurri could either secure or miss out on depending on their performances in three different competitions.

The first priority for Inter is to secure the minimum objective of a top four spot in the Serie A table at the end of the season.

Booking a place in the group stage of next season’s Champions League would be seen as necessary on a financial level due to the payouts from UEFA, whilst participation in either of the “lesser” continental knockout competitions would be worth less than a third of what would be earned from the Champions league.

Additionally, apart from the minimum objective of finishing in the top four in the league, the specific placement in the table will also matter.

A spot in fourth would be worth €16.7 million, whilst third place would bring in €21.8 million, and second €26.6 million.

Given Inter’s financial situation, every penny counts and the performances over the remaining ten league matches of the season will be crucial in this respect.

In terms of participation in this season’s Champions League, Inter have already exceeded their preseason expectations, which were for participation in the group stage and then in the knockout rounds of the Europa League.

The Nerazzurri’s earnings from Europe’s top club competition have already exceeded €75 million, and could go even higher depending on how far the team progress.

These unexpected extra revenues have meant that it is no longer seen as strictly necessary to sell a big name player before the end of June in order to meet financial targets, although this would certainly change if the team are to miss out on top four in the league.

Lastly, if Inter were to win the Coppa Italia, the prize money brought in would be around €4.5 million.
