Legendary former Juventus midfielder Claudio Marchisio feels that Simone Inzaghi is still doing a better job as Inter coach than the criticisms that he has been receiving would suggest.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster RAI Radio, via FCInterNews, the former midfielder noted that, even for all of the doom and gloom around Inzaghi, the 46-year-old still has the Nerazzurri in the race for second place in Serie A in addition to their successes in knockout competitons.

Both praise and criticism have following Inzaghi around throughout the current season, based on the team’s form virtually from week to week.

In accordance with this, it comes as little surprise that the criticism has been ratcheted up to its most intense period of the entire season following the team’s third straight loss in the league against Fiorentina over the weekend.

From the perspective of former Bianconeri midfielder Marchisio, however, the extent of the criticism has become too harsh in relation to the actual job that Inzaghi has done on the inter bench.

The former midfielder feels that, on the balance of things, Inzaghi still deserves praise for what he has done as Inter coach.

Of the Nerazzurri’s loss to Fiorentina on Saturday, Marchisio insisted that “Inter played a good match, if Romelu Lukaku had scored from the two good chances that he had, Inter would have won and they’d be on 53 points.”

“I still think that Inzaghi has an ace up his sleeve, and it’s that he’s in the quarterfinals of the Champions League and the semifinals of the Coppa Italia,” he continued.

“And then the league table doesn’t look so bad, even though ten losses is obviously too much, the team are still very much in the race for second place,” the former Bianconeri man argued.

Marchisio observed that “I think we have to think about Serie A in those terms.”
