Inter CEO Beppe Marotta wants the next coach at the Nerazzurri to be a “drill sergeant” in the mould of Antonio Conte, to instill discipline in the squad.

This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews, who report that the CEO’s priority is bringing in a coach who’ll change the atmosphere after Simone Inzaghi, with Atletico Madrid’s Diego Simeone and Roma’s Jose Mourinho also mooted.

Whilst Inzaghi has achieved plenty in his tenure as Inter coach, there has been a lingering sense that the 46-year-old former Lazio coach is too much of a soft touch at times.

This has been blamed for the fact that whilst the Nerazzurri have often started matches well this season, when things start to go against them they lose their focus and come unglued on the pitch.

Accordingly, Tuttosport report, Inter CEO Marotta is convinced that the team’s most pressing issues would be rectified by bringing in a coach who would instantly change the mood behind the scenes.

Gone would be Inzaghi’s more friendly and conciliatory demeanour, whilst a firmer hand would return to get the team playing as a well-drilled unit from first minute to last.

Former Inter coach Conte is suggested by Tuttosport, as the 53-year-old had certainly managed to put his stamp on the Nerazzurri last time around and had the squad playing a recognizable and coordinated style of play.

Given the rocky exit that the former Juventus, Chelsea, and Italy coach had from the Nerazzurri in 2021, some bridges would need to be rebuilt, particular with Sporting Director Piero Ausilio and Assistant Sporting Director Dario Baccin.

However, Tuttosport suggest, now that Conte’s time at Tottenham Hotspur is done, he would be the kind of coach who Marotta wants to put on the bench for next season.

Alternate possibilities in this regard would be Simeone and Mourinho.
