Inter defender Milan Skriniar’s fitness for next week’s Champions League quarterfinal first leg match against Benfica is a doubt, as the Slovakian is still not back in full training.

This according to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews, who report that the 28-year-old trained on his own apart from the group in today’s session, and that a decision will be made regarding his fitness for Tuesday’s match against Benfica on Saturday.

Skriniar is still recovering from a back problem which had ruled him out of several league matches before the international break, and also saw him out of action in matches against Fiorentina in Serie A and Juventus in the Coppa Italia upon the team’s return from the break.

The former Sampdoria defender had appeared against Porto in the Champions League round of sixteen second leg match at the Estadio do Dragao, although it was just a second half substitute appearance.

Skriniar will miss this Friday’s Serie A match against Salernitana, although the target could be to have the Slovakian back for next Tuesday’s Champions League match against Benfica.

However, as of yet it is not clear whether or not Skriniar will be able to recover in time for the Nerazzurri’s trip to Lisbon to face the Portuguese league leaders.

The Slovakian was only fit enough to train on his own today, casting doubt on whether he will be available to play against Benfica.

According to Sky, a decision regarding Skriniar’s fitness for the first leg against Benfica will be postponed until the weekend, with the 28-year-old to be assessed on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Sky report that midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu is set to be out a little longer than Skriniar.

It has been reported that the 29-year-old Turkish international could be out for a couple weeks at least, and that he is likely to miss the first leg against Benfica.
