Inter defender Stefan de Vrij is expecting that there will be another round of contract extension talks with the Neazurri this week.

Speaking to DAZN after the Nerazzurri’s 1-1 Serie A draw with Salernitana, via FCInterNews, the 31-year-old updated on the status of contract extension negotiations with his club, and also reacted to a disappointing result for the team at the Stadio Arechi.

De Vrij’s current contract with Inter runs out at the end of June, although it has been widely reported that the club would like to extend the Dutchman’s deal.

There has been interest reported in the former Lazio and Feyenoord man’s signature, should he wish to seek a new challenge leaving on a free transfer.

However, the talks look to be ongoing, and the player himself has updated that this is indeed the case, with further developments possible if there is indeed another meeting this week.

Asked about the status of the talks with Inter, de Vrij replied that “This week we’ll have another meeting, and then we’ll see how it goes.”

The Dutchman also reacted to the Nerazzurri’s 1-1 draw against Salernitana this afternoon, which saw a wasteful attacking performance punished with a late and improbable Antonio Candreva goal.

“The result is hugely disappointing,” de Vrij admitted.

“There’s a lot that can be said about it, but as long as it stays at 1-0 then anything can happen,” he continued, “the fact that it came from a cross just sums up how this period has been going for us, everything is going wrong.”

And regarding his mentality and that of the team, the 31-year-old said that “Speaking for myself, I always have my head in it.”

“I always try to give my best, I’m certainly not happy with the fact that I’m not playing as much, but that’s the coach’s decision,” he continued.

“Speaking about the team, we had the right approach, we kept creating chances even after we scored,” de Vrij added. “But when you don’t kill matches off, anything can happen.”
