Inter wingback Federico Dimarco feels that the Nerazzurri have no option but to qualify for next season’s Champions League.
Speaking to Italian broadcaster DAZN ahead of this evening’s Serie A match against Salernitana, via FCInterNews, the 25-year-old stressed that this absolutely must be a turning point as the team are obliged to finish in the top four.
Inter’s place in the top four spots in the Serie A table looks to be very much at risk, as their awful recent run of results has allowed the likes of Lazio, AC Milan, Roma, and even Atalanta and Juventus to gain ground on them.
This hardly means that the Nerazzurri are out of it, as their points total still has them very much in a position where they can grab hold of a top four spot with the right form over the rest of the season.
However, looking at the momentum and the dynamics of the race at the moment, Inter are the team whose progress has come to a screeching halt, whereas all of the teams around them look to be full of confidence.
Accordingly, anything else than a positive performance and three points against Salernitana would only cause further doubts to creep in for the Nerazzurri.
From Dimarco’s perspective, this would be unacceptable, as he believes that failure to reach the Champions League next season would not be an acceptable end to the season for this team.
Asked what the mood of the team is going into this evening’s match at the Stadio Arechi, Dimarco replied that “We’re definitely angry, because even with the draw with Juve, we haven’t won any of our last three games in the league.”
“Today he has to be the turning point for us,” he stressed, “because we’re obligated to reach a place in the Champions League.”
