Inter coach Simone Inzaghi has emphatically denied the notion that there has been any selfishness on the pitch from his players during their poor recent run of form.

Speaking in a press conference following his team’s 1-1 Serie A draw against Salernitana, as reported by FCInterNews, the 47-year-old made clear that he does not think that any of his players are going into business for themselves regardless of some poor recent finishing.

Inter’s awful run of results in Serie A continues with a 1-1 draw against Salernitana.

It was not necessarily a dour performance on the whole as the Nerazzurri had the majority of possession and created a number of chances, but after Robin Gosens’s early goal they couldn’t turn any of their promising situations into anything dangerous.

Perhaps there could be one or two suggestions that this is partly a result of the players being too selfish in front of goal, but from the coach’s perspective, this is certainly not the case.

“Today I don’t want to talk about any selfishness, I’d rather talk about a lot of things that I haven’t seen in a while, I’m thinking about Lukaku’s header, Barella hitting the post,” Inzaghi said.

“There’s no doubt that we’re being punished in recent moments,” he continued.

“In my view, leaving aside the results, the team played well against Fiorentina and against Salernitana, based on the chances that they created,” he added.

“We have to be more ruthless in front of goal, but that’s not just applicable to the forwards,” he added.

“We all saw the kind of match that we played,” the coach defended his team. “When you look at the match against Fiorentina as well, creating twenty clear chances and scoring just one of them is not a lot.”

“There’s something going wrong, but I have nothing to say about the team’s performance and commitment.”

“We have to be resilient and quickly put this massive disappointment behind us,” he added.

“We know that our fatal flaw was not scoring the second, and then when you do that then you can always end up conceding one like the goal we conceded today.”

Asked if there’s still confidence based on the team’s performance, Inzaghi responded that “We have to bounce back, we’ll all talk about it together, the players are affected by this and they’re feeling the responsibility, we can’t drop so many points in the league.”

“But as far as their application and the preparation for matches is concerned, I have nothing to say.”

“They also want to get things going in the league the way they’ve been going in cup competitions, but we can’t have that happen for whatever reason.”

“We know that things aren’t going the way we want them to in the league,” Inzaghi admitted.
