Inter Milan striker Edin Dzeko believes the racist chants against Romelu Lukaku in the first leg of the Coppa Italia semifinal against Juventus have no place in football.

Speaking exclusively to Bosnian media outlet N1 Info, Edin Dzeko elaborated on his thoughts on what happened in the first leg of the Coppa Italia final against Juventus.

After the match the legendary Bosnian international striker, was very emotional and was seen pointing to the Inter crest on his shirt, making gestured to the traveling Nerazzurri fans present at the Allianz Stadium to get fired up.

“During the match, there were some things that were happening that should not ever happen on football pitches, which has been talked about in these past days.

“Our fans, during all of the 90 minutes, gave us huge support and I wanted to thank them in that way. In that moment I felt that throwing them my jersey was the least that I can do to thank them for the support at Juventus Stadium.

“We have a good relationship from day 1, since I came to Inter, and I am very thankful for their affection” Dzeko underlined.

“Look Forward To Winning” Coppa Italia Again

Dzeko believes that the Nerazzurri have a good chance to retain their Coppa Italia crown after the 1-1 draw away at the Allianz Stadium, adding that a club like Inter must always aim to win trophies.

“This season I have already won a trophy with Inter, but the goal every season is to win something. As an Inter player I have already won three trophies already and I know how important it is to a club like Inter to always fight for trophies.

“The result from the first match against Juventus is very active and then we have to play even better on home turf to get to the final and then win the Coppa Italia, and I look forward to that” Dzeko continues.

Dzeko also reflected on the sacrifices he has made to reach this point given at this late stage in his career he has a chance to once again play in the Champions League semifinal should Inter go past Benfica.

“A few days ago I talked about it, what I had to go through to get here. Of course I am very proud for everything that I have done, from the beginning as a little kid in FK Željezničar.

“One day, when it’s time to end my career, we can talk about everything that I had to do to get to where I am at. Could I have done something better or different? I don’t know.

“But what I know for sure, and that I often think about, is that I managed to get this far and have this kind of career” Dzeko added.

Contract Situation “Will Be Known Soon”

The former Manchester City and Roma striker was then asked to shed some light on his future given his contract with Inter is set to expire at the end of this coming June.

Several reports in Italy in recent weeks suggest that a one year contract extension could be agreed very soon but that details still need to be ironed out, while other reports claim talks have hit a snag.

“Everything will be known soon. There are people who are dealing with this and I am focused only what I do on the pitch and my game” Edin Dzeko concluded.
