Inter coach Simone Inzaghi is likely to go with Denzel Dumfries and Federico Dimarco on the flanks, and Edin Dzeko in attack, in this evening’s Champions League quarterfinal first leg match against Benfica.
This according to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews, who report that the trio are ahead of Danilo D’Ambrosio, Robin Gosens, and Robin Gosens respectively to start this evening’s clash at the Estadio da Luz.
In terms of his starting eleven decisions for this evening, Inzaghi’s thinking is relatively settled.
In midfield there is little doubt that the trio of Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Marcelo Brozovic, and Nicolo Barella will be turned to.
Meanwhile, in goal there is no question of Andre Onana starting as he has done every one of the Nerazzurri’s matches in the Champions League thus far.
However, in defense and on the flanks the coach has had some decisions to make.
Alessandro Bastoni and Francesco Acerbi are both set to start in the back three, and according to Sky it will be Matteo Darmian who starts the match on the right with Milan Skriniar still injured.
This will mean that Dumfries starts at right-wingback, although if Inzaghi were to decide to drop the Dutchman to the bench then D’Ambrosio would come in on the right of the defense an Darmian would shift up to his customary position at wingback.
Meanwhile, on the opposite flank Dimarco is the favourite to start the match at left-wingback ahead of Gosens.
In attack, there is little question that Lautaro Martinez will start even in spite of his recent goal drought.
However, Inzaghi has a decision on his hands as to which of Dzeko or Lukaku will lead the line alongside the Argentina.
According to Sky, it is the Bosnian who is set to start in attack, whilst the Belgian could be an option off the bench.
