Italian journalist Luca Marchetti expects that Inter will face significant financial restrictions over the upcoming summer transfer window.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster TMW Radio, via FCInterNews, the Sky Sport Italia journalist warned that the Nerazzurri’s financial situation will place limitations on how the club can operate over the coming months.

It is no secret that Inter have been dealing with major financial problems since the beginning of the pandemic.

In the past couple of summers, this has led to a situation that has seen players like Achraf Hakimi and Romelu Lukaku sold for big fees, whilst the club look set to pay for their decision not to sell Milan Skriniar last summer while they had the chance.

The conditions behind the scenes have hardly changed, the the looming due date of the massive loan taken on from US-based fund Oaktree (which could itself lead to a sale to InvestCorp) only further tightens the screws on the Nerazzurri financially.

If fans are hoping that a summer transfer window that is less conditioned by financial woes than the last couple is on the horizon, then Sky journalist Marchetti’s warning will not come as pleasant news.

“We know what the financial conditions at the club are,” the journalist said, “this summer they will still have to work within significant restrictions.”

“Then thhere’s also the loan which needs to be repaid to Oaktree, today Inter can’t do so with self-financing, and so a big intervention will be needed from the club, if that doesn’t happen then control of the club will pass into the hands of the American fund.”

There is also the current condition of the squad that leads to further uncertainty, as Marchetti notes.

“There’s also a lot of uncertainty about the future, because right now Inter have so many players whose contracts or loan deals run out at the end of the season,” he said.
