Inter defender Alessandro Bastoni is confident that, if the Nerazzurri keep showing their best, then they’ll be capable of beating anyone in Europe.

Speaking to InterTV after yesterday evening’s 2-0 Champions League quarterfinal win over Benfica, via FCInterNews, the 23-year-old hailed the limitless potential for this team if they can keep this level up on a consistent basis.

The Nerazzurri may well have felt a real sense of catharsis after their win against Benfica yesterday evening.

This Inter side have come in for no shortage of criticism after their poor recent run of form, which has seen their top four spot in the Serie A table put in serious jeopardy.

However, yesterday the Nerazzurri showed that they are more than a match for even one of the most formidable sides on the continent this season, as they had already done against Barcelona and Porto in this competition.

From the perspective of Bastoni this is clear that Inter, who have also secured important wins against the likes of Napoli, AC Milan, and Atalanta at various points during the season, can beat any opponent on their day.

Looking to the second leg against Benfica, the 23-year-old said that “We have to expect the same kind of match as this evening’s, we’ve shown numerous times that if we keep this up we can win against anyone.”

“At the same time,” he continued, “if we don’t play the way we know how to we can also lose against anyone.”

“It was very important to play a great match above all to show who we are,” Bastoni hit out after yesterday’s match.

“We brought home a great win, it was important for the team.”

“We came into it off the back of some matches where we played well but didn’t manage to get the win,” he remarked.

Bastoni also stated that “I’m happy with my assist [for Nicolo Barella’s opener against Benfica] because I was able to play a ball that I know I’m capable of.”
