Inter are less likely to sell a big-name player during the summer transfer window due to the financial impact of the team’s performances in the Champions League this season.

This according to Italian news outlet Gazzetta.it, who report that the revenue from the Champions League has reduced the need for the Nerazzurri to bring in a big player sale from the transfer market in the summer, and that this could be even more so if they reach the semifinals.

Inter President Steven Zhang and the club’s board have long been aware of the probable need to sell at least one big player during the summer transfer window.

If Nerazzurri fans had hoped to avoid a transfer window similar to the last two summers, then the financial situation at the club has suggested that this would not be the case.

However, the club had not necessarily factored in the possibility of reaching the latter stages of the Champions League.

Particularly when the Nerazzurri were drawn into a group with Barcelona and Bayern Munich, the club were hardly taking the revenues that would come from the knockout stages of the competition for granted, let alone the quarterfinals or the semifinals.

Already Inter have reached the quarterfinals, and given that they beat Benfica away in the first league of their tie, there looks to be a very real chance that they could reach the semifinal and even the final.

The boost in revenue that comes from participating in the quarterfinals has already meant that the Nerazzurri will only have to raise arouned €25-30 million in net profit during the upcoming summer transfer window.

This could potentially be made up for with the sales of players currently out on loan, with a number of younger players owned by the club currently impressing on their respective loan spells.

The Gazzetta note young midfielder Giovanni Fabbian, currently shining on loan with Reggina, is not a player who the Nerazzurri would look to cash in on, as he is a player they see as a major prospect for the future.
