Inter striker Romelu Lukaku feels that the team demonstrated both their maturity and also their desire to get an important win over Benfica in the Champions League yesterday evening.

Speaking to InterTV after the 2-0 quarterfinal first leg victory, via FCInterNews, the Belgian was also keen to stress that even with yesterday’s result there’s still a lot of work to be done if they are to see out the tie in the second leg at the San Siro next week.

Inter have taken a big step in the direction of the penultimate round of the Champions League with their win at the Estadio da Luz yesterday evening.

There will still be ninety minutes plus stoppage time to be played at the San Siro next Wednesday, and it is sure to be a massive challenge.

However, the Nerazzurri have already shown just how much they can do not just yesterday evening in Lisbon, but throughout their campaign in the Champions League so far this season.

For his part, Lukaku is proud of what the team showed to beat Benfica yesterday evening, and hopes to see more of the same in one week’s time.

Of how the Nerazzurri stayed switched on all match yesterday, the Belgian said that “This shows that the team is growing.”

“We’re playing in three competitions, we have to go on in the Champions League and the Coppa Italia and also finish top four in the league.”

“I’m happy for the team,” he continued, “we played a match of real maturity and now we have to keep going and be well-prepared for the second leg.”

Of the team’s mental state heading into yesterday evening’s match, Lukaku said that “We weren’t nervous, there will be more pressure at San Siro and it will be difficult for them.”

“We faced the match with maturity and desire,” he added.

“We’ve grown a lot as a team over the last few years and now we’ve gotten ourselves into a very promising situation,” the striker said, “and now we have to kill it off at home.”
