Former Inter defender Daniele Adani feels that, once this Nerazzurri team start to play their football at their own pace, it is very difficult to find a way to counteract them.
Speaking on Christian Vieri’s Twitch channel, as reported by FCInter1908, the former defender gave his thoughts on Inter’s performance against Benfica in the Champions League quarterfinals, arguing that qualification for the semis is all but secured based on the first round display.
Of the match as a whole, the former defender gave the view that “Benfica-Inter was a great match, but in the first hour it looked like City-Bayern in slow motion.”
“When we say that the ‘Inter are superficial,” what we mean is this: if you can do this against Benfica then you have to be able to go on and do it in the league as well,” he added.
“It’s a matter of superficiality and a lack of attention,” he continued.
“One thing I liked was the performance by Bastoni, in his interpretation as a wide centre-back that moves up the pitch is almost unique,” Adani went on, “he almost thinks like a full-back and puts this ball in.”
“Against Porto Inter were both good and lucky,” the former defender added, “this time they were just good – their defensive line wasn’t too low, there was an attempt to put pressure on.”
“Benfica played their game but the match brought out the best quality of Inter – Inter don’t dribble, but they certainly know how to pass the ball.”
“And once they get into their rhythm, it’s difficult to take it away from them,” he argued, “it’s a difficult team to stay compact when they play like this.”
“If they apply themselves, Inter can do what they did here,” Adni noted, “they conceded zero goals against Porto and Benfica, they’re also solid.”
“Inter have been superficial many times, but they must always be competitive.”
Adani argued that “I think Inter have secured qualification for the next round.”
