Inter midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu is back in full training ahead of Saturday’s Serie A match against Monza.

This according to Italian news outlet FCInterNews, who report that the 29-year-old made his return to training today following a thigh injury, and that he will also train with the rest of the squad tomorrow ahead of this weekend’s match.

Inter have been without Calhanoglu in each of the last four matches across all competitions since the return from the winter break.

The Turkish international picked up a strain to the adductor muscles in his right thigh during a EURO 2024 qualifying match against Croatia during the break.

However, the Nerazzurri could get a big boost in the form of a return for the former AC Milan and Bayer Leverkusen man in the coming matches, including next Tuesday’s Champions League quarterfinal return leg against Benfica.

Given that Calhanoglu is now sufficiently fit and recovered to train with the rest of his teammates, there is a good chance of his being called up for this weekend’s league match against Monza at the San Siro.

Then, it will be up to Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi to assess the Turk’s condition and decide whether or not to use him during Saturday evening’s match against the Brianzoli.

Whilst it is certainly not likely that Calhanoglu would start Saturday evening’s match, he could come off the bench in order to start getting playing time in his legs ahead of next week’s clash with Benfica.

With Calhanoglu now recovered, Inzaghi will not want to wait long for the 29-year-old to be fully match-fit, with so many important fixtures on the way in what is a packed run-in for the Nerazzurri.

Calhanoglu has made 37 appearances so far this season in all competitions, indicating just how important he has become for Inter in a deep-lying playmaker role.
