The Curva Nord ultras group have backed striker Romelu Lukaku to be Inter’s key man in the run-in of the season.

Writing in a post on their official Instagram story, as reported by FCInter1908, the Nord gave their backing to the 29-year-old has the man whose goals and leadership can be vital to the Nerazzurri as they seek to have a positive end to the campaign.

Lukaku’s relationship with the Nord ultras group has never entirely been repaired following his departure to join Chelsea on a big money move in the summer of 2021.

Even despite the fact that it was the Belgian international who pushed to make the return to Inter on loan last summer, never making any secret of the fact that the Giuseppe Meazza is where he feels at home, there have still been some hurt feelings regarding his decision to leave in the first place.

The fact that the Belgian has been in such poor form for a large part of his time back at the club has not exactly helped things, even if the reason for the striker’s struggles with form have had everything to do with injury and nothing to do with any lack of workrate and application by the player.

Nevertheless, it would look as though Lukaku has started to win back the trust of the Nord with not just his recent performances but also the sense that he is willing to fight and give everything, no matter whether he is at his best or not.

There have been glimpses of the best of the Belgian in recent weeks, not least his goals against Porto and Benfica in the Champions League.

These kinds of performances could well mean the difference between a positive end to the season in Serie A, the Champions League, and the Coppa Italia, and a much less inspiring finish.

The Nord’s message to Lukaku is simple – “We need you immensely, your goals, your leadership – the Nord is with you, Romelu.”
