Inter’s directors have all rallied around the team ahead of the looming run-in of the season, emphasizing positivity and sticking together despite a few recent setbacks.
This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzeetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who report that the Nerazzurri directors made a point of showing up in force and demonstrating their continued support after the team’s league draw with Salernitana last week.
Whilst the win over Benfica in the Champions League on Tuesday has changed the mood significantly at Inter, it can’t be forgotten that until that result, the atmosphere was threatening to become downright bleak.
A draw away to Salernitana was a bad enough result in isolation, but coming as it did off the back of three straight losses in Serie A against the likes of Spezia, Juventus, and Fiorentina, it was downright devastating.
A reaction was always expected from the Nerazzurri directors amid the mounting talk of a crisis particularly in terms of league form.
According to the Gazzetta, there was indeed a reaction from Inter’s directors, but it was more to rally around the team than to be critical or express their anger.
From the perspective of Inter’s directors, it was key to provide their continued backing to coach Simone Inzaghi and the players after a moment that had really threatened to derail their confidence and self-belief.
They felt that even though the momentum wasn’t there, the potential to emerge from the woeful run of form that the team had been in the middle of was plainly evident in the team’s performances even in defeat.
Accordingly, Inter’s directors stuck with the team closely, culminating in Tuesday’s match against Benfica.
At the Estadio da Luz, the Nerazzurri directors with the team all the way, speaking with them confidently just before the match to rally the troops.
In the end, they got the result that they wanted and expected from a team who they never really lost faith in.
