Former Inter defender Andrea Mandorlini feels that the one thing that current Nerazzurri strikers Lautaro Martinez and Edin Dzeko is a bit of calmness.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster SportItalia, via FCInter1908, the former defender identified what he sees as the major aspect that both of the two strikers need to find if they are to get back amongst the goals at the decisive moment of the season.

Both Martinez and Dzeko started Inter’s Champions League quarterfinal first leg match against Benfica on Tuesday evening.

Neither of the pair could be accused of not having put in a shift, but once again they provided very little in front of goal as they each extended their respective goal drought yet another match.

It is hard to clearly identify why the pair are not able to break through in front of goal at this moment in time, considering how prolific both have managed to be at various points over the past couple of seasons.

For Mandorlini, however, it seems to mostly come down to a certain lack of composure from the two Nerazzurri strikers, whilst his review of Romelu Lukaku was mixed.

Speaking about the strikers’ performances against Benfica on Tuesday at the Estadio da Luz, the former defender noted that “Lukaku had the penalty opportunity and he did well to take advantage of it – it’s never easy to score them, especially in those kinds of situations.”

“But he’s missed a lot of simple chances lately,” he noted of the Belgian.

“Lautaro also did quite well,” Mandorlini continued, “even though he didn’t manage to find a goal, which is always vital for forwards.”

“It’s possible to see how both and Dzeko have lost their way in front of goal a bit,” the former defender went on, “and without that then they’ve started to lose their calm.”
