Current Inter Primavera coach and legendary former defender Christian Chivu is the only possible candidate lined up to take over at the Nerazzurri senior team on a caretaker basis if Simone Inzaghi were to be sacked with immediate effect.

This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews, who report that the Nerazzurri would not have any particular contingency plan if Inzaghi is out the door right away, apart from promoting the Under-19 coach.

Whilst Simone Inzaghi is not currently likely to be sacked as Inter coach before the end of the season, particularly given that the 47-year-old continues to have the full backing of the squad, it is not as though that situation could not change.

Particularly in the event that the Nerazzurri were to bomb out of the Champions League against Benfica on Wednesday, the former Lazio coach really could be shown the exit door within the next few days.

According to Tuttosport, in the event of a failure to reach the semifinals of the Champions League despite the two-goal advantage from the first leg of the tie against the Portuguese league-leaders, the club would assess the manner of the defeat.

If it were to be decided that the team well and truly squandered their two-goal advantage and were to be outplayed on Wednesday evening, it cannot be excluded that Inzaghi would be sacked with immediate effect.

Should the 47-year-old be out the door, the team would of course need a new coach, and ideally someone capable of immediately turning around the atmosphere and the momentum.

According to Tuttosport, however, the Nerazzurri are not seriously considering any candidates to take over as a caretaker besides Chivu.

The Romanian, who won the European Treble with Inter as a player during the 2009-10 campaign, has been coach of the Nerazzurri’s Primavera team since the start of last season.
