Inter coach Simone Inzaghi still hasn’t given up on the possibility of a late season comeback, and his experience with Lazio from his playing days is a big part of the reason why.

This according to Italian news outlet Gazzetta.it, who report that the 47-year-old is taking the Biancocelesti’s late overtaking of Juventus to win the Serie A title during the 1999-2000 as an important precedent to help them turn things around this season.

On paper, Inter may not be out of the race for top four in the Serie A table, but they are officially chasing a spot after yet another defeat in the league, with their loss against Monza over the weekend the fourth in the league in just five matches.

Accordingly, it will take something special over the remaining matches of the season to put this truly dreadful run of form in the rear view mirror and grab a Champions League place in the remaining matches of the campaign.

However, for his part Inzaghi can remember being in a similar position as a player, with Lazio in 2000.

That was in a title race against Juventus, but at a similar stage of the season the fact remained that the Biancocelesti will have been staring at a difficult situation in which their fate was out of their hands.

However, the club from the Italian capital never stopped believing, and when the stumbles did arrive from the Bianconeri, they were able to capitalize and complete the comeback.

For his part, Inzaghi has faith that the teams currently ahead of them in the Serie A table will end up letting Inter in, and that even in a position where things are starting to look, something special is still possible.

Accordingly, the Gazzetta reports, the coach is not losing his patience or his faith.

Moreover, the 47-year-old is looking at the opportunities that the team have in the Champions League and in the Coppa Italia not as distractions but as great opportunities in which to build confidence and momentum.

Inzaghi has no illusions about how dark the current moment that Inter are going through is.

However, experienced has taught the coach that even from positions like this it is possible to go on and do something special, and he believes that the end of the season can be a great one.
