Legendary former Inter defender Marco Materazzi feels that he would have stayed at Inter in the position that Milan Skriniar is in rather than leaving to join Paris Saint-Germain.

Speaking to French broadcaster Canal+, as reported by FCInterNews, the former defender argued that Skriniar will never get the same kind of love from PSG fans as he has from Nerazzurri supporters, noting that even Lionel Messi sometimes get booed by the fans at the Parc des Princes.

Skriniar has made the decision to leave Inter when his contract with the club runs out at the end of June.

The 28-year-old looks to have been convinced by PSG’s offers, which is not only higher than what the Nerazzurri had put forward but will also see him play alongside some top stars in Europe such as Messi, Neymar, and Kylian Mbappe.

However, from the perspective of legendary former defender Materazzi, this may not be enough.

The 2006 World Cup winner suggested that the way that the fans treat the players is also a conclusive factor, and that for him he could not imagine leaving Inter to join PSG in the position that Skriniar is in.

“In his position, I would have stayed at Inter,” he argued.

“I said it publicly: ‘Remember how the Inter fans loved you, I don’t know if you’ll get the same kind of love in Paris even if I hope that you do,'” the former defender noted.

“Just look at what’s happening with Messi,” Materazzi noted, referring to some of the boos that the Argentine has received from PSG fans, “and he’s one of the best players in history.”

Of Skriniar, Materazzi said that “He’s an excellent defender, not quite at the highest quality but when he applies himself he’s extremely good in a collective defensive context.”

“He’s improved a lot,” the former defender added, “he’s become indispensable and captain at Inter.”
