Inter are targeting Lens striker Lois Openda as a potential replacement for Romelu Lukaku in attack next season.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInter1908, who report that the 23-year-old is one of the strikers who the Nerazzurri are looking at for next season, with Lukaku likely not set to be brought back when his loan from Chelsea expires.

Inter could be in for a significant degree of squad upheaval during the summer, with the attack an area which could see quite a bit of turnover.

The situations of players like Joaquin Correa and Edin Dzeko are very much up in the air, whilst it now looks all but certain that Romelu Lukaku‘s second spell with the Nerazzurri will be over after just one season.

Even Lautaro Martinez is no longer producing goals as the Argentine looks physically spent, underlining the need to inject some freshness into the forward positions for next season.

Accordingly, the Nerazzurri are casting a wide net for potential signings in the striker position.

It is in this sense that Openda has emerged as a serious target, as the 23-year-old has proven himself a proficient marksman since joining Lens last summer.

The striker joined the French side, who currently sit in second place in the Ligue 1 table, from Club Brugge last summer, having shone in two seasons on loan with Vitesse in the Eredivisie previously.

Openda has certainly proven ready to make the next step in the French top flight, as he has scored fifteen goals in 31 league appearances for the French side, joint-seventh in the Ligue 1 scoring charts.

Moreover, the Belgian has emerged as a regular for his national team, having been in the Red Devils’ squad at the World Cup in Qatar.

Openda has scored twice in eight caps for Belgium since last year.
