Inter are eyeing up two young Italian goalkeepers in the form of Empoli’s Guglielmo Vicario and Cremonese’s Marco Carnesecchi as possible replacements for Andre Onana should he be sold this summer.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who report that the duo are forefront in the Nerazzurri’s thoughts as they strategize for the possible contingency of being forced to sell Onana.

Whilst Inter would hardly be inclined to sell Onana just one season after his arrival in normal circumstances, if they were to face the reality of not having Champions League revenue next season they could feel that they have no option.

The 27-year-old is a major target for Manchester United and Chelsea, and should Inter find themselves in a tight financial spot without Champions League football, it seems very probable that those Premier League giants will test the Nerazzurri’s resolve with offers for him.

Should Inter be forced to sell Onana, who has been one of the team’s outstanding performers this season particularly in the Champions League, the succession plan would likely be to go after a top-class young Italian prospect.

In this sense, Vicario and Carnesecchi are the two possible targets lined up.

26-year-old Vicario has been impressing with his performances for Empoli since they came up to Serie A two summers ago.

The Nerazzurri as well as Juventus have had the Empoli keeper, who is widely regarded as one of the outstanding keepers in the Serie A midtable, on their radar for some time now.

Meanwhile, there is also Carnesecchi, who has enjoyed a meteoric rise.

Owned by Atalanta but on loan with Cremonese over the past two seasons, the 22-year-old has kicked on from an excellent campaign in Serie B last time around by keeping his form up in the top flight this season.

Whilst Cremonese look like they will have a mountain to climb if they’re to avoid relegation straight back down to the second division at the end of the season, the form of Carnesecchi is certainly not to blame for this.

The young keeper, who kept Inter-owned Andrei Radu out of the Grigiorossi’s lineup, has been one of the bright spots for his team throughout the season.

Given Carnesecchi’s age and quality, he is being monitored as a possible Onana replacement by the Nerazzurri just as Vicario is, the Corriere reports.
