Legendary former Inter, Lazio, and Atletico Madrid strikere Christian Vieri feels that there is no excuse for the Nerazzurri performing the way that they have been in the league.

Speaking on his Twitch channel, via FCInterNews, the former striker argued that the Nerazzurri strikers in particular have to show more ruthlessness in matches against smaller teams, in which a massive drop-off in attack has precipitated a big decline in the team’s overall form.

Saturday’s 0-1 loss at the hands of Monza made if four matches in five that Inter failed to take points in the league, whilst the draw away to Salernitana was barely any better.

It also means that Inter have now lost a total of eleven matches in Serie A so far this season, after just thirty played.

Whilst one or two bad results can always happen in football, the sense is that there has to be some broader trend underlying the team’s woeful form, and in particular their lack of attacking efficiency.

From the perspective of former striker Vieri, it comes down to the players, and in particularly the attackers, who have not been showing what they can do particularly in matches against the smaller teams on paper.

“When I saw Lukaku was starting, I thought that playing against Monza he had to score two goals,” the former striker argued.

“There are no excuses for the Inter, you have to win 3-0 against Monza at home.”

“When I played, I never cared about the coach when I saw that we were playing against teams like Monza, Empoli, etc.” Vieri added.

“I thought I had to score two goals and that’s all there was to it.”

“Maybe if it’s away from home then it’s a different story, but if it’s at the San Siro, in front of 75,000 fans, then I’d go out and play even now,” Vieri said.

“I was a total glutton for it,” the former striker said of playing in front of the home support.
