Referee Livio Marinelli will be the referee in charge of Inter’s Serie A match away to Empoli at the Stadio Carlo Castellani in Tuscany.

This is confirmed by an official announcement of the officiating crews for all ten matches to be played during the upcoming round of fixtures in the league made by the Lega Serie A, as reported by FCInterNews, which also lists the rest of the officials for the match.

38-year-old referee Marinelli has been refereeing matches at the Serie A level since the 2017-18 season, when he made his debut in a match between Atalanta and Hellas Verona which saw La Dea win 3-0.

It was during the 2020-21 campaign that Marinelli started to referee top flight matches more regularly, having been in charge of a number of lower division and youth level matches since 2012.

The Italian official has not yet made his debut in European knockout competition, or in international matches.

This season, Marinelli has been in charge of one Inter match so far, the Nerazzurri’s shock 1-2 loss away to Spezia last month, and the team will be hoping that things go better for them on this occasion.

Assisting Fabbri in his duties will be Christian Rossi and Vittorio Di Gioia, whilst the role of fourth official will be filled Ermanno Feliciani.

In the VAR room, Luca Banti will oversee the match to ensure that any errors made by the on-pitch crew are corrected, whilst he will be assisted in his duties by Gianluca Manganiello.

The Nerazzurri will be hoping that the focus stays on the action on the pitch as they aim to get back on track following four defeats from their last five matches in the league.

Meanwhile, Empoli will be looking for the points that can guarantee their safety in Serie A, which would represent a third season in a row in the top flight after being promoted in 2021.

In the reverse fixture at the San Siro, Empoli dealt Inter a shock 0-1 defeat, in a match which saw defender Milan Skriniar for two first-half yellow cards.
