Inter forward Joaquin Correa feels that his goal against Benfica in the Champions League can be a source of confidence for him.
Speaking to InterTV after yesterday evening’s 3-3 draw at the San Siro, via FCInterNews, the Argentine stressed the significance of finally getting himself on the scoresheet amid a period where he has admittedly been struggling.
Correa, like the rest of Inter’s strikers, has hardly been in the best of form over the past few weeks.
For the former Lazio and Sevilla man, in truth, it is not just recent weeks, but virtually his entire time at Inter that has seen him struggle to show his best football.
Injuries and fitness issues have certainly played a big role as Correa has never really lived up to expectations.
However, the 28-year-old managed to show his quality in a vital moment, scoring the Nerazzurri’s third goal on the night to put their Champions League quarterfinal tie well and truly out of sight.
The goal proved to be perhaps even more than it had initially appeared, as two late goals from Benfica were not cause for too much anxiety for Inter as they knew they had a significant cushion in the tie.
“Scoring certainly gives me confidence, because I haven’t done so for a long time,” Correa said after the match.
“We as the forwards haven’t been scoring much, I’m also happy for Lautaro,” he added.
Of the feeling of getting to the semifinals of Europe’s top club competition, the 28-year-old said “No words, this is us.”
“If we find a way to always play like this, we can achieve great things,” he added.
“That’s been the problem for us this season, though, but we want to end it on a high note.”
Asked if he’s dreaming big, Correa said that “Of course, you have to dream, otherwise nothing will arrive.”
“We have a dream and we can achieve it by playing as a team like today.”
