Inter midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan has received praise for his performance in yesterday evening’s 3-3 draw against Benfica in the Champions League.

The 34-year-old got a 7/10 grade for his performance in the player ratings for the match in today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who highlighted the importance of his understated work in midfield to keeping the team ticking over.

Former Roma, Manchester United, and Arsenal midfielder Mkhitaryan may not have had the kind of eye-catching evening that his teammate Nicolo Barella, scorer of the match’s only goal did.

However, the Armenian international put in a tireless shift and did the simple things well to keep possession ticking over and cover a lot of ground against a Benfica team who tried to press Inter out of the match early on.

Having gradually shifted from an attacking midfielder or a winger to a much more box-to-box type of player during his time with the Giallorossi, this has certainly been Mkhitaryan’s modus operandi since joining Inter.

Meanwhile, wingback Federico Dimarco received a score of 7/10 like Mkhitaryan, as he made a couple important defensive interventions and got forward to good effect by delivering two assists to each of Joaquin Correa and Lautaro Martinez.

Goalscorer Barella received a grade of 7.5/10 for his all-action display, capped off with his excellent turn and finish to really put the Nerazzurri in control in the tie.

Meanwhile, striker Lautaro Martinez both assisted Barella for the match’s opener and also got one of his own for Inter’s second, capping off a tireless performance that saw the Argentine look a lot sharper than he had done in the past few matches.

Martinez received a score of 7.5/10 for his performance as Barella did.

Coach Simone Inzaghi received a score of 6.5/10 for how he set the team up from the Corriere, meanwhile.
