Inter President Steven Zhang believes that from now on, every match in Serie A will have to be treated like a final by the team.
Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia after the 3-3 draw against Benfica in the Champions League yesterday, via FCInterNews, the President looked to the league and the massive significance of each match to try and regain a top four spot.
Inter have managed something very special in Europe, where they are in the penultimate stage of the Champions League.
However, in the league it’s a very different story, where a sequence of truly awful results has seen the Nerazzurri drop from what looked like a fairly safe spot in the top four places in the table to a position where top four is hanging on by a thread.
Given the vital importance of playing in the Champions League on sporting and financial levels, it will be nothing short of imperative for the Nerazzurri to regain their spot in the top four of the table.
“Every league match has to be a final,” Zhang said, “top four is essential and the players know it.”
“We’ll fight until the end,” the Nerazzurrri President added.
Of what reaching the Champions League semifinals means, Zhang said that “It means a lot to all of us, we started when our players had no European experience and hadn’t won trophies.”
“Now we’re winners and we want to fight to continue this dream.”
Of what facing Milan in the semifinals means, the Inter President said that “Over the course of my years in charge, the derby has always been one of my favourite matches, both in terms of how enjoyable it’s been and also the results.”
“We want to get revenge on them for last season,” he added.
“Every season we fight until the end for every competition, and the Champions League is the most difficult.”
“We have always dreamed of this,” Zhang said.
“Now the fans have to have faith that anything will be possible,” he concluded.
