Former Udinese Sporting Director feels that there is no favourite in the upcoming Champions League semifinal tie between Inter and AC Milan.

Speaking to Italian news outlet TuttoMercatoWeb, the executive gave the view that the Nerazzurri and the Rossoneri both have around equal chances of making it to the final of Europe’s top club competition in next month’s two-legged Milan Derby.

The Milan derby is always known to be a match in which the form book tends to be ripped up.

The fact that the two Milan teams have met a total of ten times so far over the past three seasons, with Inter winning four of those matches, Milan three, and three have ended in draws, gives a good idea of how little there is to split the Nerazzurri and the Rossoneri.

The last two meetings were both Inter wins, but the form of the two sides has changed in the intervening few months.

Moreover, the derby has always seemed to be a match in which the unexpected can happen, as the extra passion and motivation from both sets of players comes to the fore and makes for unpredictable encounters.

Few derbies will be as important as the two that the Nerazzurri and the Rossoneri are set to play next month, and this could add a further layer to the motivation and intensity.

Meanwhile, the fact that the two sides are close together in the league table shows that even if they have had their respective ups and downs throughout the season, the underlying quality of the pair has little to split them.

Asked about whether he thinks that there’s a favourite in the tie, Gerolin replied that “It’s difficult to say.”

“It’s a tie that will be open to any result, it’s between two strong teams and the fact that they’re so close together in the table shows you that there’s little to split them.”
