Inter defender Danilo D’Ambrosio feels that the strikers are vital to the team even when they aren’t necessarily scoring goals.

Speaking to InterTV after the Nerazzurri’s 3-0 win over Empoli, via FCInterNews, the 34-year-old highlighted the significance of the performances of the players in attack for Inter.

Inter got a massive result in more ways than one at the Stadio Carlo Castellani this afternoon.

The Nerazzurri managed to take three points in a league match for the first time in over a month, putting a period which had seen four losses and one draw in five behind them.

Moreover, the likes of Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez started to find their cutting edge in front of goal, which will be vital if the team are to get back into the race for top four in Serie A as well as get the best out of the Coppa Italian and the Champions League.

“We needed to send a message and we did,” D’Ambrosio said.

“We got three points for Inter.”

“A brace from Romelu, a goal from Lauti, and an excellent performance,” the defender summed it up.

“We picked ourselves back up in the league, there had been a number of matches in which we weren’t able to get points so we’re happy,” he added.

Of the importance of a clean sheet against the Tuscans, D’Ambrosio said that “It’s a very important aspect, at the end of the match I went over to Samir and the defenders to congratulate us all, because it’s important for us not to concede goals.”

“Winning is important but if we can win 3-0 instead of 3-1, then that’s all the better.”

Of the season as a whole, D’Ambrosio said that “My impression is that it hasn’t been a bad season.”

“We’ve already won a trophy,” he continued.

“We’re in the semifinals of the Coppa Italia, then we have another very important semifinal [against AC Milan].”

“It’s a very important moment in the season, and we have to save all of our energy because it’s energy that we need to turn into positive form.”

“In the league we could have done better, but there has never been a lack of scoring chances and actions, so it’s true that if you don’t put it in the back of the net you don’t win, but I tend to see the glass as rather half full.”

“The strikers have always been fundamental to us even when they’ve failed to score.”
