Inter Milan won 3-0 away against Empoli in Match Day 31 of the 2022/2023 Serie A season where Romelu Lukaku scored a brace and assisted Lautaro Martinez for the third, which is reflected in the SempreInter.com Inter Milan player ratings.

The Nerazzurri didn’t start this match very well at all. In fact for most of the opening 45 minutes Inter looked like they were playing a pre-season friendly. Such was the tempo and intensity.

In the second half, Inter started much better and in the 48th minute Romelu Lukaku broke the deadlocks coring his second goal from open play in the Serie A this season, the first coming on Match Day 1 away against Lecce.

Empoli then worked themselves into the match without really creating anything before Big Rom scored a vintage Lukaku goal in the 76th minute to double Inter’s lead.

Some 12 minutes later Lukaku turned provider assisting substitute Lautaro Martinez for Inter’s third goal on the day to go home with all three points.

Given Lazio lost yesterday to Torino and if Inter beat the Biancocelesti next weekend at the San Siro, Simone Inzaghi could be a mere four points off Maurizio Sarri’s men after next Sunday in the Serie A table.

But first the return leg of the Coppa Italia semifinal against Juventus this coming Wednesday night at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in Milan’s San Siro district, with kick-off scheduled for 21.00 CET.

Danilo D’Ambrosio – 6: Not much to complain about today. Played well and did the job, made a few good attacking runs to set up chances from defence.

Francesco Acerbi – 6: Strong performance from the Italian veteran, slotted into the LCB role perfect and made many good overlapping runs.

Raoul Bellanova – 7: Settled well into the match. The only Inter player who takes on his man and does it well. Looked lively and full of energy on the right flank.

Roberto Gagliardini – 6: Reliable performance today, putting his physicality to use. Nothing to complain about, did his job well and did not make any major errors.

Marcelo Brozovic – 5,5: Had an extremely poor first half, looked completely out of it today, just as he has all season. Got an assist on the opening goal to make up for it.

Hakan Calhanoglu – 6,5: Quiet but quality performance. Have missed his creativity and flare, good to have him back on the pitch. Few good shots on target and nice assist.

Robin Gosens – 5,5: Struggled to deliver quality crosses into the box and long-balls in general. Was decent on defence but much more poor on the attack today.

Joaquin Correa – 6,5: Used his quick feet and dribbling skills to be a continuous threat to the opposing defenders. Did well to drop back in attack to make himself an option.

Romelu Lukaku – 8 (MOTM): Involved in all three goals today, one incredible solo run beating his man with a stepover and finishing far post. Hopefully a sign of things to come.
