Chelsea-owned striker Romelu Lukaku feels that as far as his future at Inter, the only thing that he can do is put his head down and focus on giving his best on the pitch.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster DAZN following his match-winning performance in a 3-0 win over Empoli in Serie A, via FCInterNews, the Belgian gave his thoughts on his future, also noting that he is really starting to regain his confidence.

A lot of questions have been asked about whether or not Inter will decide to continue on with Lukaku past the end of the season given that his season-long loan from Chelsea is set to run out at the end of June.

There have been reports that the Nerazzurri will not decide to bring back, and that he will be headed back to Chelsea.

In any event, a common theme to all the reports regarding the 29-year-old’s future has been that things will be based around his performances on the pitch.

There is no doubt that Lukaku hasn’t been close to his best this season with injuries playing a big factor, but if he can play as he did in the second half against Empoli more often, it could be a very different situation.

Asked if he wants to stay, Lukaku said that “Yes, but that’s for you guys [journalists] to pay attention to, and then everyone else…” trailing off making a ‘blah blah blah’ gesture with his hands.

“Now I just have to give my all for Inter and take things one match at a time,” he added.

“I have an excellent relationship with the fans,” Lukaku went on.

“I’ve always tried to give my best for Inter because this club gave me the opportunity to win trophies two years ago.”

“It allowed me to become who I am today,” he added.

Asked if the “Real Lukaku” is now back, the Belgian international replied that “I think so, I’m gaining confidence in individual actions, and in terms of linking up with my teammates, I’m also happy for Lautaro because we’ve both been going through a difficult period.”

“Now we’re regaining confidence in front of goal, we have to keep going like this because it’s an immensely important period for us.”
