Former Inter defender Daniele Adani has named the five former Nerazzurri players who he would include in his dream five-a-side team.

Speaking to LeoVegas.news in an Instagram post on the club’s official site, Adani named Francesco Toldo, Maicon, Wesley Sneijder, Lothar Matthaus, and Ronaldo as the five players from the Nerazzurri’s past who he would like to assemble into a five-a-side team.

There has been no shortage of great players to have walked through Inter’s doors over the years, and so the prospect of picking just five hardly seems straightforward.

Then there is the difficulty of putting together a balanced team that makes the best out of the characteristics of all of the players involved.

However, from the perspective of Adani, there is reasoning behind each selection, starting with a goalkeeper who he had plenty of experience with from his playing days.

“I played with Toldo,” the former defender noted, “I have to say I’m also grateful to him because on more than one occasion he made up for my sh*t.”

“He’s a special man, I was lucky enough to play with him at Inter and Fiorentina, he was a goalkeeper with great life and intensity, the defender could always hear his voice,” he added.

“Playing with him gave me a lot of security, and that’s the fundamental quality in his position,” Adani said of former Nerazzurri keeper Toldo.

“Julio [Cesar], I have great respect for you, but I choose Toldo.”

For defense, Adani said “There’s my friend Marco [Materazzi], we played together, Then there’s Walter [Samuel], respect to both of you, you’re defensive leaders, but my football brain says Maicon, he has flair and invention to take people on even from defense.”

In midfield, he noted that “I’ll start with one thing – Matthaus is a good compromise between Sneijder and Cambiasso, so we have to put him in.”

“Lothar is great, one of the best midfielders in history.”

“Cuchu gave the team great balance, he had a great mind, but the same argument as in defense is also true here – you need technique in tight spaces, so it’s Sneijder.”

And in attack, Adani said “I don’t think I have to say why it’s Ronaldo.”
