Inter midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu was forced off the pitch with a thigh problem during the second half of the Nerazzurri’s 1-0 win over Juventus in the Coppa Italia this evening.

This according to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset, via FCInter1908, who report that the 29-year-old Turkish international suffered an issue with his adductor muscles, although it remains to be seen how serious of an injury it was.

Whilst Inter certainly got the result that they wanted against Juventus this evening, one potential problem could come in the form of an injury to an important squad member.

Whilst there had appeared to be some worry with Nicolo Barella before he was substituted off, the 26-year-old indicated to the bench that he was fine.

The same may not be said for Calhanoglu, who was taken off for Roberto Gagliardini during the 82nd minute of the match.

Whilst it hadn’t been initially clear that this had been for reason of injury, and looked more as though Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi had simply been shoring up the midfield with fresh legs, Mediaset report that the change had actually been due to an injury.

According to the broadcaster, the 29-year-old former AC Milan man had picked up a problem with his adductor muscles.

However, Mediaset notes, at the moment the severity of the injury is not yet clear, and more will have to be awaited in terms of updates on the likely recovery timeline and how many matches Calhanoglu could miss.

Calhanoglu had already been out with a thigh injury earlier earlier this month, with the club having confirmed that the injury that he suffered whilst on international duty with Turkey had been a strain to the adductor muscles in his right thigh.

It is not yet clear whether the current injury is related to or a reinjury of the same injury.

In the case of Calhanoglu’s previous thigh injury, the Turk missed four matches in total whilst he recovered.
