Inter wingback Federico Dimarco is hoping that the Nerazzurri will be able to go all the way in the Coppa Italia after his goal booked them a place in the final of the competition.
Speaking to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset following the team’s 1-0 second leg win over Juventus in the semifinals of the competition, via FCInterNews, the 25-year-old suggested that now the most important thing will be to make good on this win by winning the final.
It has taken Inter until the fourth time of asking this season to get a win over Juventus, but it proved to be a highly important one.
This evening’s Coppa Italia semifinal second leg match was poised on the edge of a knife, with the first leg in Turin having ended in a 1-1 draw, with the away goals rule having been scrapped for this season.
Accordingly, both teams went into the match knowing that with a win they would book their place in the final of a competition where the two had met last season.
It was Dimarco who scored the match’s only goal, latching onto a Nicolo Barella pass that had looked to have been intended for Edin Dzeko, and finishing coolly past Bianconeri keeper Mattia Perin.
Along with the clean sheet kept at the other end, this was enough to ensure that Inter will be playing in the final of this season’s edition of the competition against either Fiorentina or Cremonese.
“We played an excellent match,” Dimarco said after the final whistle, “we got what we came for, it’s a great win.”
Asked if he thinks that his goal was more important than the one that he scored in a 3-0 win over AC Milan in the Supercoppa Italiana in January, the wingback replied that “Hopefully it means now we can go all the way.”
“I’m part of a great group of guys,” Dimarco said, “we fight every match and prove what we’re worth.”
