Legendary former Inter striker Roberto Boninsegna feels that Simone Inzaghi has proven to be a coach adept at navigating his way out of a lot of pressure.

Speaking to Italian news outlet Notizie.com, the former striker suggested that the 47-year-old’s win in the Coppa Italia semifinals against Juventus was another example of his coming up with a statement win right when the pressure had been dialed up the most.

It has proven to be nothing less than a recurring theme this season that Inter will play themselves into a lot of pressure with disappointing results, and then emerge with a big win to reassert themselves.

Victories in the Champions League against Barcelona, Porto, and Benfica have proved important in this season, whilst the team have also answered their critics with league wins over the likes of Atalanta, Napoli, and AC Milan.

Yesterday evening’s Coppa Italia semifinal second leg win over Juventus was a perfect example of this kind of much-needed statement result.

And, given that it is usually the coach who is the first in the line of fire when things aren’t going according to plan, it has perhaps been Inzaghi more than anyone else who has benefited from these kinds of timely responses by the team.

Boninsegna gave his thoughts on how Inzaghi has managed to get out of these situation, observing that “He always has a gun pointed at his head, but he always knows the right moment to get out of the way.”

“Losing out on the Scudetto last season is an albatross around his neck, we handed the title to Milan,” he continued.

“We were a goal up in the derby, and then with two substitutions six points were given up in twenty minutes.”

“This season Inter are right on the edge, we’re doing badly in Serie A but then we won the Supercoppa Italiana and are doing very well in the Champions League and the Coppa Italia – Inzaghi has to be congratulated for that.”
