Inter coach Simone Inzaghi feels that the team will have to keep up the same intensity as they showed against Juventus in the Coppa Italia yesterday evening over the remainder of their matches in the season’s run-in.
Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews, the coach reacted to the win which sees the Nerazzurri reach the Coppa Italia final and also stressed that they must keep going in this direction.
Inter got another big result in a knockout cup match, winning 1-0 on the night and 2-1 on aggregate to knock Juventus out of the Coppa Italia in a hard-fought derby d’Italia match and become the first team to reach this season’s final.
The Nerazzurri will face one of either Fiorentina or Cremonese in the final of the competition, depending on the outcome of tomorrow evening’s second semifinal match.
Inter had already won the competition last season, dispatching Juventus in the final last time around, and now they will be dreaming of making it back to back.
In addition, there are seven massive matches in which the Nerazzurri can try and claw back their place in the top four of the Serie A table, and then a Champions League semifinal tie next month against AC Milan, and possibly a spot in the final of that competition in June.
It won’t be easy, but Inzaghi feels that the most important thing will be for the team to keep up their sense of unity and intensity as they showed what they’re capable of with their win over the Bianconeri yesterday evening.
“We won as a team,” Inzaghi said, “we were aggressive and determined.”
“We’re very happy because we live and work every day to have evenings like this,” he continued.
“The guys did very well, they had to react because we’ve lost some very damaging matches and dropped points in the league, even when we probably haven’t deserved to,” he added.
“We can still come back though, we do it with all our strength,” the coach added, “tonight’s intensity will be needed, we want to keep going at this pace, and we will put in a massive level of commitment.”
