Inter midfielders Nicolo Barella and Hakan Calhanoglu are both back in training despite injury scares during Wednesday evening’s Coppa Italia semifinal second leg win over Juventus.

This according to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews, who report that the duo are both training as normal with the rest of the squad, and that coach Simone Inzaghi will decide whether or not to start either or both against Lazio on Sunday.

Both of Barella and Calhanoglu had to come off the pitch as substitutes during the second half of Wednesday’s Coppa Italia semifinal second leg match against Juventus, as both appeared to be physically struggling to keep up with the pace of the match.

Whilst Nerazzurri coach Inzaghi did not seem to worried in his post-match remarks, stressing that the club doctors had reassured him that there didn’t appear to be any issues besides fatigue, it was still a sign of the constant matches starting to take their toll on the players.

Accordingly, the coming training sessions could be very important for Inzaghi to get a sense of what the condition of the two midfielders will be.

According to Sky, both were able to participate in a full training session with the rest of their teammates today, and so there should be little question of their availability for Sunday’s match against Lazio.

However, this hardly means that it is a guarantee that either of the pair will start against the Biancocelesti.

Inzaghi will have to assess the pair’s fitness in view of this weekend’s match, and make a decision as to whether or not they would be ready to play without risking their fitness for future matches, with so many massive fixtures on the way.

In the meantime, all of Marcelo Brozovic, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, and Roberto Gagliardini are candidates to start in midfield on Sunday as well.
