The agency representing Barcelona midfielder Franck Kessie has denied recent rumours that the 26-year-old has rejected a salary cut from the Blaugranas and could leave the club this summer.

Speaking to Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport in an interview published in today’s print edition, via FCInterNews, Ambition Sports Group legal representative George Antangana intervened to deny a report from that newspaper that Barcelona asked Kessie to accept lower wages and the player refused.

A couple of days ago, the Corriere made a report that Kessie had been asked by Barcelona to accept a lowering of his wages for next season.

The Ivorian former AC Milan and Atalanta man currently earns €6.5 million net per season, but according to the Corriere’s report, the Blaugranas had asked for him to accept a reduction due to their financial need to lower spending.

Moreover, there was the suggestion that if Kessie does not agree to such a wage reduction, then he would be free to leave the Camp Nou in the summer, with Inter as well as clubs in the Premier League keen on signing him.

However, lawyer Antangana has poured some cold water on this notion, stating in no uncertain terms that this report was not in fact accurate.

In fact, the lawyer representing Ambition Sport Group has denied the entire scenario altogether.

“The subtitle and the text of the article both contain information without any foundation whatsoever,” the lawyer said of the Corriere’s report of Kessie rejecting a pay cut from Barcelona.

“In particular, the idea that Mr. Kessie was summoned by the Blaugranas to discuss a reduction in the payment amounts outlined in his contract does not in any way correspond to the truth,” he continued.

“And then, it is consequently not true that the response from the Ivorian midfielder would have been in any way negative,” he added.
