Inter midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan feels that the Nerazzurri’s 3-1 win over Lazio in Serie A this afternoon can be a source of confidence for the team.
Speaking to Italian broadcaster DAZN after the match, via FCInterNews, the 34-year-old also gave the view that the team are showing how strong of a squad they have in spite of some slip-ups in results this season.
Whilst last Sunday’s league win over Empoli was important for Inter just to stop the bleeding after five without a win in Serie A, it did not feel like a conclusive response that suggested that the team were right back on track to reach the top four in the table.
This afternoon’s win over Lazio, then, felt much more like a result that indicated the team are really starting to recover and play at their best ahead of the decisive run-in of the season.
With the pressure piled on particularly after the Biancocelesti took a 1-0 lead in at halftime, Inter produced a response and took a big step back into the top four of the Serie A table.
“This win gives us a lot of confidence,” Mkhitaryan said after the match, “especially coming from been behind.”
“We won an incredible match,” he added, “Lazio are a strong side and we played well.”
Of his goal disallowed for a marginal offside, the Armenian said that “I’m sorry to have seen it, we could have gone into the break in control if we’d been 1-0 up, but it was a moment that just got us more fired up.”
“The players who came on gave us a boost and were decisive, we have a very strong and deep squad,” he added.
Of the Champions League semifinals against AC Milan, Mkhitaryan emphasized that “Let’s play the two league matches first, then we’ll think about Milan, it will be a brilliant two-legged tie.”
“Playing those matches will be difficult from a mental point of view, we’ll do everything to reach the final.”
